Rating: - Freaky World: Is your Flower Blinking?
I don't know what freaks me out more--this book or the M. York movie! Like it? I don't know. Hate it? I don't know! I'm still trying to grasp the thing! LOL Maybe I am a runner trying to avoid Last Day? Logan's Run is worth a read though because it does provoke thought and offers a unique view of what it means to be human in the pseudo-future. Be forewarned! There are big differences between book and movie and no doubt between this and other versions. [Seems like there was even a TV show about this ... Read More
Rating: - strange
Mainly this was interesting to compare to the movie. I've seen movies that closely followed the book, and I've seen movies whose only connection to the book was that they shared the same title. With this one the deviations are just curious. Like -- minor spoiler coming up here -- in the movie the "Sanctuary" for doomed people turns out to be a myth. In the book it's a real place. In the movie everybody lives in a single domed city, apparently unaware that there even is an outside world. In the book ... Read More
Rating: - Completely different.
This was completely different than the movie. Actually I found it hard to believe they called the movie Logan's Run.Most of the events are different and many of the visual descriptions are also different. If someone made a movie based more closely on the book it would be unrecognizable as a Logan's Run remake. It was an interesting book but I found the writing style a little strange compared to what I normally read.
Rating: - Not Free SF Reader
No old people allowed. At 21, they get rid of you, thanks to some fancy biometric tracking. If you don't think that is a great idea, then special operatives named Sandmen, armed with weaponry that discharges a variety of different ammuntion hunt you down.
Logan is a Sandman, and he comes to realise what is going on is wrong. He ends up a runner, and encounters all sorts of bizarre things on his quest for Sanctuary.
Rating: - Obvious Copy of "Brave New World"/ "We"
The themes of this book are obviously inspired (copied) from the 1946 novel "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley, which itself is claimed to be inspired by the 1921 book "We" by Yevgeny Zamyatin. Pulp fiction version, I guess. Not revolutionary or original, commercial. Movie was cool. Entertaining.
