Rating: - Provocative
I didn't really know what to expect, but after getting over the rape/ murder of Suzie, I settled into what was a very provocative story of love and renewal. It is more about the way the family deals with the tragedy than the actual tragedy itself and that is what gives the story its purpose. The family, for good and bad, deals with the death in their own way, and inturn, Suzie, comes to realize her family will move past the tragedy-- and so will she.
Rating: - Death Warmed Over
I picked this book up because I overheard some authors talking about it.
Rape and murder are the backbones of mysteries/thrillers today and the story told by a fourteen-year-old spirit is all too common in the newspapers. It is almost, but not quite a ghost story that wanders into fantasy.
THE LOVELY BONES opens with Susie Salmon watching from the spirit world as life goes on without her, while she yearns to returned to the life she was cheated of living.
A good read on a dull ... Read More
Rating: - Fair, but slow in the middle
This book definately grabs you from the beginning. I found myself reading faster so that I could find out how it resolved. However the problem I have with the book is that it drug on in the middle. It was as though the author needed to fill extra pages to make the book longer. The wrap up was odd too. Almost as though the author had the idea for the beginning and then couldn't figure out how to end the book.
Rating: - 5 stars for lovely read....
The story is poignant, original, fresh -- and the writing is beautiful. Although the premise is grisly, the story is hopeful and timely. A young girl is lured to her rape and murder by a neighbor who has preyed on others. As Susie watches her family, friends, and neighbors from her heaven we see the havoc that is wreaked on the survivors' lives. Although she cannot interact with the living or influence them, she cannot stop watching and hoping that, somehow, they will be O.K. I highly recommend ... Read More
Rating: - Amazing Read
The perspective of this book is original and the story is very compelling. This is a great book for young adults and up the story get under your skin and makes you believe in the characters. Dealing with such a serious topic the writing still finds room for wit and charm. I highly recommend Lovley Bones.
