Product Description:
"Once there was a tree . . . and she loved a little boy." So begins a story of unforgettable perception, beautifully written and illustrated by the gifted and versatile Shel Silverstein.
Every day the boy would come to the tree to eat her apples, swing from her branches, or slide down her trunk . . . and the tree was happy. But as the boy grew older he began to want more from the tree, and the tree gave and gave.
This is a tender story, touched with sadness, aglow with consolation. Shel Silverstein has created a moving parable for readers of all ages that offers an affecting interpretation of the gift of giving and a serene acceptance of another's capacity to love in return.

This book teaches a valuable lesson to children. I bought this for one of my great granddaughters. I'm sure she will treasure it as she grows older.

This is another quality installment by shel. It is more of a short story, than a collection of peoms. We prefer where the sidewalk ends or the light in the attic but it is still good stuff.

Shel Silverstein showed me how we will take not matter the consequence and someone or something will always give no matter the result.

I love this story! I gave it as a gift this time and the recipient also loved it!

This is the best childrens book ever written. I have three children and it is their favorite. They are grown now and picked this book to send to my younger niece and nephew. I volunteer at an elementary school for their reading program and all the kids love it. My wife has read it many times and still can't get thru it without crying. It is a very touching book.
