Product Description:

Until the phone calls came at three o'clock on a November morning, the Golds and their neighbors, the Hartes, had been inseparable. It was no surprise to anyone when their teenage children, Chris and Emily, began showing signs that their relationship was moving beyond that of lifelong friends. But now seventeen-year-old Emily is dead&#8212shot with a gun her beloved and devoted Chris pilfered from his father's cabinet as part of an apparent suicide pact&#8212leaving two devastated families stranded in the dark and dense predawn, desperate for answers about an unthinkable act and the children they never really knew.

From New York Times bestselling author Jodi Picoult&#8212one of the most powerful writers in contemporary fiction&#8212comes a riveting, timely, heartbreaking, and terrifying novel of families in anguish and friendships ripped apart by inconceivable violence.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Jodi Picoult is amazing!
What a fantastic story. I could not put this down. It is not only beautifully written, but poses many questions about teen suicide. Especially those of us who have teenagers and think we know them and what they are thinking. A must read!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - How Far for True Love?
"The Pact" by Jodi Picoult is one of those books that you will never forget. Picoult points to what True Love should be about, along with examples of soulmates- how far would you go to make the one you love happy? At what point do you say, "Enough about what you want, what about what I want?"

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Very good, but not great - just a touch too shallow and obvious
First of all, I *hate* that so many of the other reviews basically give away the story / punchline.

Okay, now: I read (actually listened to the recorded format of) "My Sister's Keeper" before this one. Maybe it was just because of that experience with Ms. Picoult's writing, but I "got" this one WAAAAAAY early. It was like cassette three (out of 12, again recorded format) that I had the ending figured out. And therefore, all through the last nine tapes, I kept looking for the "hook", ... Read More
